Two different things get called "selling coins," and they're priced in opposite ways. Bullion — Silver Eagles, gold coins, bars — tracks the live metal price, so the spread between shops is usually small. Collectible coins are priced on date, mint, and grade, where one shop's offer can beat another's by a wide margin.

For anything you think is collectible, get two or three offers before you sell, and ask whether the buyer is an ANA member or an authorized PCGS / NGC dealer — a quick signal they grade to a recognized standard. And don't clean coins: it feels helpful and almost always lowers what a dealer can pay.
